How to Join | Submission Guidelines

Welcome to GOA - the premiere club for Gaia Online-inspired art work. All members of Gaia Online are welcome, whether you are an art appreciator or an artist. Please be sure to read these guidelines before submitting a join request. Please keep in mind as well that we are a High Quality Art group and only allow images that meet that criteria into the galleries.

:damphyr:When applying you MUST:
:bulletwhite: Include the Gaia account name you use when taking commissions if you are an artist or the Gaia name you use when requesting art on Gaia if you are a buyer alone.
:bulletwhite: Include the link and name of your art shop, request thread, freebies thread, commission journal or wherever you sell/purchase gaia inspired artwork (even if it is on hiatus).
:bulletwhite: If you are already a group member and are looking to switch accounts, just mention that along with your ld DA account name in your join request and we will add you automatically and remove the old account.

:bulletred:If you do not include this information in your join request, it will be declined. You can re-apply anytime with the proper information if this is the case. We will no longer be directing new members to this post if declined. Please READ the guidelines before joining this club.

:bulletwhite: We no longer can keep up with the Member Shop Directory so once you join the group be sure to join the Guild on Gaia Online. There is a thread there for everyone to post their own shops and any deals they might be having!
Gaia Online Artists Guild
When applying to join let us know your deviantart account so we can cross reference our members. If you don't you'll be declined from the guild.

:damphyr:Submission Guidelines
In GOA, we strive to represent the very best of Gaia Online inspired artwork.

:bulletwhite: Only members can submit works into our gallery.
:bulletwhite: Members can submit One image per folder per week.
:bulletwhite: We strive for quality over quantity - if the deviation isn't something you'd want displayed to represent your full capacity as an artist, then it shouldn't be submitted.
:bulletwhite:Please do not take it personally if we reject something. It doesn't mean your whole gallery is full of work that wouldn't be accepted. Bare in mind, we reject as much as 60% of submissions made due to quality standards.

More club information including the full set of submission rules can be found here: Mission // Rules // Applying // Submitting Work

Thanks for visiting us, enjoy your stay~!

:iconethe:

Say hello to January's Featured Member! This is very special feature because ethe is actually on Staff as an artist for Gaia Online!

:bulletwhite: Gaia Name: ethe

:bulletwhite: Personal Site: Thousand Skies

:bulletwhite: Q: When and how did you first get involved with the Gaia Art Department? Are there any tips you would pass on to other artists looking to work with the company in the future?

:bulletwhite: A:
It was summer 2006 when I got in touch with Gaia HQ and they said that they were interested to hire me as a full time artist. I think having an online portfolio and personal website help to give yourself some exposure to the industry. And to work at Gaia as an artist, versatility is very important, they want you to be able to do illustrations, pixels, and some animations. But having a strong drawing skill is the most definite, because gaia could teach you how to use that skill into pixel form, but not really vice versa.

:bulletwhite: Q: How do you choose your color schemes for your work? Is there a method or steps for setting up your compositions?

:bulletwhite: A:
First I would decide the light source, and whether the light is a warm or cool tones. After that I spent so much time on my color sketch before I started a full blown painting. First I laid down all the basic colors on the canvas, and tweaked the color balance from photoshop, and paint it over again and tweak and paint over. So it involves a lot of process of going back and forward.

:bulletwhite: Q: Are there any personal projects or exhibitions your working on?

:bulletwhite: A:
Yes, outside from Gaia, currently I'm working on my personal children's book project and also I'm working on a mobile game with a friend. The children's book is about half way done, but I don't know how I'm going to do with it yet. But right now I'm more focusing on the mobile game. It is on a very early on stage, if you guys are interested you could see the work in progress at Mumuja.com

:bulletwhite: Q: When did you first realize you were really going to go for illustration and being a freelancer? Was there a big moment or any tough times you've had to work through to keep doing what you want?

:bulletwhite: A:
Funny that you ask that question, because I was originally planning to become an animator, but while working on my final thesis animation in college, I came to realize that the best part of that process was painting the bg of the scenes. I enjoyed painting more than animating. I did some freelance jobs on and off, sometimes I have to paint other people works, so ideally I would want to paint my own drawing with my own style, but some projects demanded that I did something different. But I have to admit that I learned a lot of digital painting skill because of projects like that.

:damphyr: Best Work to date (in the artist's opinion):
From my DA I think water lantern is one of my strongest work, since I feel that it's more unique from the market out there and it delivers some narrations.
